What is a banner exchange/farm?

A banner exchange is one of the original advertising methods on the net.

You would create a banner and submit it to the exchange, they would then show this banner on affiliated pages.

People would hopefully click the banner and be transported to your web site.

Many exchanges were free and some charged a fee.

Although you still see many of these around the web there value is extremely limited with most people avoiding banners and never clicking on them. In fact studies have shown that people no longer "see" the banner automatically blocking it from their vision.

Click rates are often in the range of 0.001%!

From a search engines perspective most banners led to a central site, therefore its benefit to you is negligable.
